Forewall Battery stands inside Edinburgh Castle as a 16th Century gun platform, built to direct fire across the castle approach rather than decorate it. Its stones still carry the shape of that military purpose, even if no gun remains set in the wall.

Built in the 16th century as part of Edinburgh Castle's defences, the Forewall Battery was constructed to strengthen the castle's southern approach against potential attack.
