What is recorded here

Kilmacduagh in County Galway, Ireland, held an early monastic complex inside a subcircular earthen enclosure, possibly drawing Templemurry, the cathedral and the round tower within one sacred margin. The road now cuts through its western part, erasing half the line, while the eastern bank still rises forty centimetres above the grass like a forgotten breath. To walk its surviving curve is to measure how much of a monastery fits inside a road, a graveyard wall and the patience of soil.

This ecclesiastical enclosure is part of the early monastic complex at Kilmacduagh. It surrounds Templemurry (GA128-034014-), and possibly the cathedral (GA128-034004-) and round tower (GA128-034008-). It consists of a poorly preserved subcircular enclosure (>67m E-W; 62m N-S) defined by a much-denuded earthen bank/scarp (Wth 3.8m; H 0.4m max.), best preserved from E to SE. The county road, running on a roughly N-S axis, cuts through the W part of the enclosure, just to the W of Templemurry. No clear trace of its line survives to the W of the road, though the curving S wall of the graveyard surrounding the cathedral may reflect part of its course.
