Ecclesiastical enclosure in Kill (clanmaurice By.)

This large sub-circular enclosure is cut into two unequal parts by OS 6-inch sheets 14 and 20, and would appear to cover an area of over 29 acres. According to local tradition, a church (KE020-077----) once lay within this enclosure. In the enclosure is an 'old graveyard' which is marked on the 1841-42 OS 6-inch map for Sheet 20, but does not appear on the later edition of 1897. A Man-made underground passage containing a skeleton was discovered and excavated in 1987 (Cahill, 1988). The above description is derived from C. Toal, ‘North Kerry Archaeological Survey’. Dingle.
