Ecclesiastical enclosure in Kilcornan (dunkellin By.)

Ecclesiastical enclosure

What is recorded here

Kilcornan Church hides a lost boundary in Galway woodland. Redington saw foundations east of the doorway before the forest swallowed them again. The stones may have marked a sacred precinct where prayer and daily life intertwined. They vanished so completely that even memory seems to have forgotten their shape.
In woodland. Redington (1911-12, 182-3) noted 'the foundations of a larger enclosure' to the E of the doorway of the church (GA095-060----). No other details are provided. On inspection no visible surface trace was found. Possibly an ecclesiastical enclosure? Compiled by: Olive Alcock Date of upload: 24 February 2020
