This claret commemorative plaque records: East Castle Street c1786 In 1101 houses build within the outer bailey of the Castle formed the original East and West Castle Streets. The present street was developed in 1786 by Dr Anthony Weaver, who owned most of the street, with the Thomas Telford Church, St Mary Magdalene, being build between 1792-96.
Dr Anthony Weaver was a prominent local figure in Shrewsbury who significantly shaped the urban landscape by developing East Castle Street in 1786; his development efforts also included owning most of the properties on this street.
