Earthwork on Castle Hill — Report the wrong picture

Castle Hill carries a medieval motte and bailey where a steep natural scarp was widened into a massive oval rise. The ground still shows an irregular bailey, a damaged ridge top and a broad enclosed area beside the road. Quarrying has bitten into the work, yet the shape remains large enough to suggest that power once stood above the surrounding land.

The National Heritage List for England records Earthwork on Castle Hill as a scheduled monument. The saved point comes from the centre supplied by the official record. Listing does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
