Earthwork in Glenlary

In pasture, immediately E Glounderrig sream that forms townland boundary with Ballinvreena. A cliff-edge fort (LI048-043----) lies 14m to the W. Depicted on the 1840 ed. OSi 6-inch sheet as a raised circular shaped area defined by a scarp. Shown on the 1897 OSi 25-inch map as a sub-circular shaped area (dims. c. 23m N-S; 23m E-W) defined by a scarp from NW-N-E-S-SW and at W by a scarp of the ravine. In 1840 the Ordnance Survey described this monument as one of ‘three forts, one near the W boundary’ (OSNB Abbeyfeale to Bruree, 190). Monument visible as raised D-shaped area defined by a scarp with trees at S on Digital Globe orthoimage taken between 2011-13 and on Google Earth orthoimages. See attached Google Earth orthoimages.
