Earthwork in Ballingarry

In reclaimed pasture, enclosure (LI049-279----) lies 20m to the SW. Depicted on the 1840 ed. OSi 6-inch map as a raised circular-shaped area defined by a scarp. Shown on the 1897 ed. OSi 25-inch map as a raised sub-circular shaped area (dims. c. 20m N-S; 24m E-W) defined by a scarp with a gap at NE. In 1840 the Ordnance Survey recorded this monument as one of 'four forts' in the townland (OSNB Abbeyfeale to Bruree, 191). Monument visible as circular-shaped area enclosed by a bank lined with trees at SE and SW, truncated at NE by a modern house boundary running NW-SE on Digital Globe orthoimage taken between 2011-13 and on Google Earth orthoimages.
