Dunnottar Castle, Well stands in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, marked as a Post Medieval feature on the national record. The castle loomed above the coast for centuries, but this small well remains the forgotten throat through which water climbed to sustain life inside the stones. Dunnottar Castle, Well is associated with the historic Dunnottar Castle, a strategically important stronghold built by the monks of the Abbey of Tavistock in the 12th century and later held by the Keith family. It is remembered for its role in Scottish history, including its defense during the Wars of Scottish Independence and its use as a repository for the Scottish Crown Jewels during the 17th century.
