Dunkellin Castle stands as a ruined tower house in County Galway, its stones stripped of roof and purpose. It may have watched the coast or guarded a local family, but the facts leave that chamber empty. What remains is a shape strong enough to suggest someone once climbed its stairs and faced the weather.

Dunkellin Castle was built in the 15th century by the Blake family, an influential Anglo-Irish clan in County Westmeath. It is remembered as a significant example of a late medieval tower house and as the ancestral seat of the Blakes, who played a notable role in the region's history.
