Ballynakill Castle stood on a slight Westmeath rise, its small rectangular bawn clinging to the southwest wall like a shadow cast by stone. The 1837 map drew that bawn in dots, admitting uncertainty even then, while pasture and time erased every last line. What remains is a ghost of a boundary, visible only in the memory of the land and the hesitation of the draughtsman.

Sited on a slight rise, in gently undulating pasture. Possible bawn belonging to Ballynakill Castle described in 1979 as the remains of a small rectangular enclosure defined by a low bank adjoining the SW wall of a tower house (WM022-006----). This possible bawn area is depicted in dotted outline on the 1837 ed. OS 6-inch map. No surface remaina visible today of the bawn on Digital Globe aerial photographs.
