Birthplace

What is recorded here

Donald Macardle was born in Dundalk, County Louth, Ireland on 12 November 1900, the starting point for an Irish life that later crossed into British film, stage writing and business. He acted in pictures such as Wee MacGregor's Sweetheart and The Fair Maid of Perth, wrote for Carnival and Thursday's Child, directed The King's Cup, married actress Enid Valnette Morgan in 1934, and died on 25 May 1984 at 83. Dundalk gave him a name, a body and a childhood voice; the rest of the world gave him cameras, scripts, rooms and reasons to leave the birthplace behind.
