Doe Castle stands on a Donegal promontory where sea attacks three sides and a deep rock-cut ditch blocks the fourth. First recorded during a MacSweeny feud in 1544, it sheltered Spanish Armada survivors in 1588 and received Owen Roe O'Neill with one hundred veterans in 1642. Its tall stone room, narrow gun loops and changed stairways still show how people tried to control entry, defend rooms and keep living through repeated conquest.
