Midleton’s workhouse presented a brutal H-shaped stone chamber where desperate people awaited relief or death. Its central block still stands as a nursing home, preserving the cold geometry of institutional survival. The western fever hospital vanished, but the main structure continues breathing life into the same bones.

In Midleton, indicated on 1842 OS 6-inch map. Warden's house on W side replaced 1950s by present hospital complex. Central accommodation block survives as 14-bay, 2-storey structure (long axis N-S), with gabled attic windows along roof; 3-storey double-gable-ended terminals built at right angles to main block making plan 'H' shaped; now a nursing home. One-storey building extends to E which would have connected to the original hospital building of 2 storeys (long axis N-S) which was demolished 1970s. Complex enclosed by stone wall with entrance piers to W. Convent indicated on 1902 OS 6-inch map immediately N of central accommodation block survives. Fever hospital indicated on 1842 OS 6-inch map to west no longer survives. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
