Dermot Morgan

Stillorgan is where the boy who became Father Ted first learned that performance meant staying on top of a rowdy crowd. Dermot Morgan was born in Dublin in 1952, lost his father young, and turned that early vacancy into jokes about traffic, priests and ordinary Irish life. His schoolroom lessons in readiness later filled television studios, but the shape of the mischief formed in a household where laughter had to carry what sorrow would not say.
