Dermot & Granias Bed

Court tomb

What is recorded here

Granias Bed is a court tomb in County Mayo, Ireland. The name suggests a giant's sleeping place, yet the stones belong to ordinary ancestors whose names have vanished. They built a chamber large enough for the whole tribe to gather around the dead, then walked away into history. The bed remains empty, waiting for someone to remember why it was made.

Portal dolmen; likely dates to the Neolithic period (c. 4000–2500 BCE). Its significance lies in contributing to the understanding of megalithic funerary practices in western Ireland.
