Dermot & Granias Bed (Remains of)

Wedge tomb

What is recorded here

Dermot & Granias Bed is a ruined wedge tomb in County Clare, Ireland. Its name suggests two people, perhaps lovers or rivals, whose story became so strong it replaced the dead inside. The stones still lean across the field like a sentence broken in half, waiting for someone to finish telling it.
See linked document with details from Ruaidhrí de Valera and Seán Ó Nualláin, Survey of the Megalithic Tombs of Ireland. Volume I. County Clare. (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1961) Date of upload: 30 December 2011
Portal dolmen; likely dates to the Neolithic period. Its significance lies in contributing to the understanding of megalithic tomb distribution and construction in western Ireland.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
