What is recorded here
Entrance and walls, built c. 1830, comprising square-plan rusticated sandstone piers set in roughcast rendered boundary walls with granite capping and smooth render quoins. Square-headed door openings to east and west of central gateway, with cut granite surround and timber battened door to entrance to west. Recent timber gates and fencing. Situated at south-west corner of Saint Anne's Park.
This entrance and boundary wall are part of a group of structures connected to the former St. Ann's estate. Although the original gates have now been replaced the boundary wall, pedestrian entrances and substantial outer piers convey a sense of the boundary treatment in the past. Cut granite detailing provides a textural contrast with the roughcast render. A strong sense of balance is created by the alignment of pedestrian entrances flanking the central entrance. This was one of the main entrances to St. Ann's estate from the coast road.
