Dale Fort is a complete mid-19th-century coastal artillery fort at Dale Head, built to protect the anchorage at the mouth of Milford Haven. It now serves as a field studies centre where thousands of students work each year, turning military stone into a classroom for ecology and natural history. The fort keeps its defensive shape, with a rock-cut ditch, a D-shaped bastion, and seven gun positions overlooking the haven, while students walk the same cliffs where soldiers once aimed at incoming ships.
