Killeany church stands beside a penitential station where twenty-eight cursing stones once topped a rude altar of large limestone blocks. Westropp counted them in the early 1900s, but by 1997 only small water-rolled stones remained visible beneath a covering of sod. The earth has swallowed most of the ceremony, leaving behind a quiet suggestion that people once gathered there to speak harsh truths before God and neighbour.

On a penitential station (CL005-108005-) situated SE of Killeany church (CL005-108001-). 28 cursing stones were noted by Westropp (1905-8, 49) on top of a ‘rude and curious altar of large limestone blocks’.
