What is recorded here
Curravarra is a lost Kerry cairn whose name survived on maps long after its stones disappeared from the grass. It may have stood near the Red Ditch, high enough to be seen, small enough to be forgotten. A cairn is often a claim made visible: this far, this high, this much remembered. Whatever it marked, the land stopped repeating it.
Depicted as a small circular feature (diam. c. 13m) possibly indicating cairn material on the 2nd ed. (1916) OS 6-inch map and named 'Curravarra' (not in gothic script). On the 1st ed. (1841) OS 6-inch map the name ‘Curravarra’ is attached to a possible cairn (KE014-110----) c. 500m to the WSW. In pasture at the top of an ESE-facing slope c. 180 N of a linear earthwork known as the 'Red Ditch' (KE014-017----). When visited in 2000, no visible surface trace was evident.
