Curraghkippane Cemetery

Graveyard

What is recorded here

Curraghkippane Cemetery is an ancient burial ground on the Kerry Pike where the ruins of a thirteenth-century church still stand beside headstones dating from 1730. Jerome Collins, the arctic explorer who died in 1881, rests there with his Celtic cross pointing north toward the doomed pole expedition rather than east like the others. The longest funeral in history may have carried him home, while the shortest belonged to a sexton taken from a cottage window and buried only metres away.
Curraghkippane Cemetery is a graveyard in County Cork, Ireland.
