Culzean Castle, Gas House was built in the 19th century as part of the estate's infrastructure to support the main castle, which was designed by Robert Adam and largely constructed in the late 18th century. It is remembered as an example of ancillary industrial buildings associated with Scottish country estates during the period of increasing use of gas for lighting and heating.
