Culvert, Castell Malgwyn Tinplate Works; Castle Malgwyn

Culvert

What is recorded here

Under the polished floors of Hammet House, a forgotten culvert still carries river water to the ghost of a tinplate works. Sir Benjamin Hammet built the grand house in 1795 merely to hide the smoke and noise of industry from his guests. The metallic clangor stopped in 1806 when the works were demolished, but the water keeps flowing through the earth, remembering the heat and hammer-blows that the marble facade tried to erase.
The National Monuments Record of Wales records Culvert, Castell Malgwyn Tinplate Works; Castle Malgwyn as Culvert from the Post Medieval period. The saved point comes from the official national record. Inclusion does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
