What is recorded here
Crossnaleanav is a hidden burial ground at a West Cork crossroads, remembered only because the dead once lay beneath what looks like empty ground. The living may have passed the site for generations, unaware that the soil already belonged to the departed. Forgetting did not empty the place; it refused to show its marks.
At crossroads. No visible surface trace.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 1: West Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1992). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
