Dateable to the early medieval period, likely 8th to 10th century AD, the cross-slab would have originally served a Christian funerary or commemorative function, reflecting the spread of Christianity in the region. Such slabs often feature symbolic Christian iconography and may have been associated with local monastic sites or early churches.
