What is recorded here

Located 2m from SW corner of Cathedral (WI023-008003-). Described by Leask (1950, fig.19f, 42) as a ‘rough slab incised with a two-line cross,occupying about two-thirds of the slab, and having hollowed angles. A small circular cup marks the centre. It is about 6 feet [2m] from the south-west angle of the Cathedral’. Dated to the early medieval period, likely between the 8th and 11th centuries, the cross-slab may have served a Christian commemorative or ritual function. Such crosses are often associated with early Christian worship or as markers for burial sites, reflecting the spread of Christianity in the region.
