Cross-slab

What is recorded here

Located 4m to the N of the N doorway of St Mary's Church (WI023-003001-). A slab of mica schist (dims. H. 53 W. 63 T. 6 cm) with single line incised Latin cross (Healy 1972, 60). Date of upload: 28 November 2012 See linked document with drawing from Patrick Healy, Supplementary survey of ancient monuments at Glendalough, Co. Wicklow. Unpublished OPW report, 1972.
Probably dating to the early medieval period, this cross-slab likely served as a Christian memorial or waymark. The Latin cross suggests a Christian symbolic function, possibly associated with the church or local pilgrimage routes.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
