Cross-slab in Newtownburke

A stone slab 1.05m high, .35m wide and up to .15m thick. On one face is a Latin cross with T-bar terminals. A cross on the other side is nearer in shape to the Greek form. It also has T-bar terminals. It is at present located beside a field boundary in marshy pasture land, but is not in situ and its original location is unknown. This cross-slab, with its Latin and Greek cross forms and T-bar terminals, is likely of early medieval Christian origin, possibly dating to the 8th to 10th centuries. Such stones were often used as memorials or markers for religious sites, reflecting the spread of Christianity in the region.
