Killoughane Edge Whirlpool, Killoughane, County Kerry. A cross-cut stone from an old house near Killoughane Church, found in the late 1980s when the house was broken open. It may have belonged to the church, or to a family who kept it for generations. The cross still marks the place, even if the house is gone.

O'Sullivan and Sheehan (1996, 354, no. 1089; 428, no. 1480) record that this stone was discovered during the demolition of an old house near Killoughane Church (KE065-058----) in the late 1980s. However, the precise location of the house in which it was found is not given and while the stone is likely to have been associated with Killoughane church it is not certain that it was. This cross-inscribed stone likely dates to the Early Christian period (5th–10th century AD) and may have functioned as a Christian memorial or waymarker. Such stones often carried religious symbols or inscriptions associated with local saints or land divisions.
