What is recorded here

Tobermolog/Tobar Mhealaicí: KE043-076001- A stone (KE043-076002-) which stood above the well bore a plain inscribed cross (Curran no. 64) and there was also reputedly a stone at the well which bore indecipherable writing (Ó Danachair 1960, 73). The above description is derived from J. Cuppage, ‘Corca Dhuibhne. Dingle Peninsula archaeological survey. Ballyferriter. Oidhreacht Chorca Dhuibhne’ (1986), no. 938. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 7 August 2013
Likely dating to the early medieval period, the cross-inscribed stone reflects a Christian tradition associated with holy wells. Such stones may have marked sacred sites used for ritual or pilgrimage, blending prehistoric and early Christian spiritual practices.
