What is recorded here

One small stone in Cill Maoilchéadair still wears a cross with bar terminals, set beside the old church where Reenconnell hill drops toward Smerwick Harbour. It is not a grand monument, yet that is what makes it memorable: a few chiselled lines remained visible through centuries of weather, memory and change. Perhaps people touched it before prayer, or simply passed it without noticing. Either way, the cross still marks the place where human life bent toward something larger.

The Early Christian and Medieval ecclesiastical complex at Kilmalkedar (KE042-026----) lies at the foot of the W slopes of Reenconnell hill, overlooking Smerwick Harbour. The Reenconnell ridge peaks at 907 feet/276m to NE of the site and the area around Kilmalkedar is sheltered on its N and S sides by spurs of this hill.
