In 2010, Laurence Dunne recorded stone No. 530 in Garfinny graveyard as a narrow sandstone slab bearing a large Latin cross, the initials J M, and R.I.P. The cross arms and shaft reach the full width and height of the stone, leaving little room for anything except the name of the dead and the certainty of remembrance. It may have marked a child, a lover, or a family line, but its shape still speaks plainly: one life, one cross, one place remembered.

In 2010 a graveyard survey carried out by Laurence Dunne recorded the following details about cross-inscribed stone No. 530 in Garfinny graveyard (KE043-228----): 'Fourteen previously unrecorded cross-slabs or simple cross inscribed headstones were plotted and recorded in Garfinny. These crosses comprise eight small unhewn stones inscribed with crosses (59, 61, 63, 77, 95, 203, 530 and 708); five 18th / 19th century cross inscribed slabs (98, 130, 347, 449 & 712) and one late stone cross (181). Cross-slab (530), narrow straight sided somewhat pointed sandstone, 0.86m x 0.23m x 0.21m. The cross-slab has a large deeply incised Latin cross, whose arms and top of shaft extend to the full width and height of the stone. Beneath the cross are the initials J M and beneath them the letters R.I.P' (Dunne 2010, 17).
