Mortons crosses stand in clusters of three to seven, yet this lone shaft lies broken in Rathmore West. Its octagonal limestone form tapers from a broad base to a narrow point, measuring just over a metre in length. The fragment rests prostrate among graves, stripped of its upper structure but preserving the geometry of its making. What completed the shape, and when the cross fell, has gone quiet.
