Cross in Oughtmama

Oughtmama is an ancient churchyard in County Clare where a broken cross base still marks the northern edge. The rectangular stone measures one metre long and ninety centimetres wide, with a square hole cut through its centre. That empty socket suggests a tall wooden post once rose above the grass, perhaps guiding worshippers or warning them about sacred ground. The cross itself has disappeared, but the base remains visible enough to show that the site was never ordinary.
