Half-buried in the front garden of a modern house on Springfield Farm, a granite boulder waits with an empty rectangular socket, as if the cross were merely paused rather than lost. The shape is precise enough to suggest making, not weathering, and the cross may still lie beneath the grass, patient under the feet of children and dogs. What is known is the hole; what is imagined is the life it carried before the ground swallowed it.

This granite boulder, containing a socket for a cross, is located in the front garden of a modern house, on the lands of Springfield Farm. It is level with the ground (boulder dims. L 0.76m, Wth 0.35m, D 0.23m). The socket is rectangular in plan (L 0.35m, Wth 0.20m, D 0.02m). According to the Schools Survey (1937) in the Irish Folklore Commission, there was a tradition that the cross was buried somewhere in the immediate vicinity (ÓhEalidhe 1959, 207).
