What is recorded here
One school fell, one cross moved, and the forest kept the shape of both. That is still what stands in Castlewellan: a room made visible through timber and air. People may have prayed inside the walls or watched the cross through a gap in the boards. Either way, the cross stopped being a secret and became the whole story.
The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as CROSS, formerly built into school, now at Castlewellan Forest Park. Recorded period: UNCERTAIN. Recorded protection: State Care. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.
