Crosneen Fort

A subcircular area (dims. 54.8m N-S, c. 38m E-W) defined by an earthen bank (Wth c. 2.8m; int. H c. 0.3m, ext. H c. 1.8m) and external fosse (Wth c. 3.5m) from SE-NE. Possible original entrance at E. Today no surface remains survives of the enclosing feature around the ringfort that was described in 1990 as there are 4 bungalows with their associated plots in the S quadrant of the ringfort and a large farmyard with two farmhouses built in the N quadrant of the ringfort. The entire surface of the ringfort has been built on with the aforementioned buildings. These houses and the large farmyard are marked on the 1995 OSI B/W aerial photo of the region and were presumably built between 1990 and 1995.
