Crannog is an artificial island, often built with brushwood, soil and stone, then farmed or lived upon. Swan Island Little preserves that idea inside County Antrim, where a small raised place may have given people dry ground, privacy and a defensible home. The name keeps the crannog identity alive even when the island itself has faded into marsh, memory or myth.
