CRANNOG in Slee, County Fermanagh, is an early Christian crannog, a small island platform built among wetland waters where people lived, worshipped or hid when the land around became unsafe. The name preserves a human choice: to build a room in the swamp rather than leave the swamp behind. Whatever was lost there did not disappear cleanly. It sank beneath reeds, rain and time, waiting for someone to remember that the water was not empty.
