Crannog in Rosslara

Crannog

What is recorded here

Crannog in Rosslara is a small tree-covered island at the northeast edge of Rosslara Lough in County Clare, Ireland. It sits about forty metres from the shore, close enough to tempt a jump but far enough to demand respect. The missing map line does not diminish it; the water and trees still mark the boundary between the known world and the forgotten one.
At the NE extent of Rosslara Lough. A small subcircular tree-covered island (diam. c. 30m) c. 40m from the shore. Not on any OS maps but visible on Google Earth (imagery date 25 April 2021) and other aerial photographs. Reported by Jean-Charles Caillère (March 2024). ‘Lecarrow Fort’ (CL027-014---) lies c. 200m to the NW. Compiled by: Mary Tunney Date of upload: 11 November 2025
