Crannog in Loughdoo, Knockgorm, County Down: an artificial island dwelling or platform built in ancient or medieval times, still marked at the heart of the lake. Water would have closed around its edges, forcing entry by boat and giving its people a small dry world amid open danger. The lake keeps the shape of human choice: a place made, not found.
The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as CRANNOG in Loughdoo. Recorded period: E.CHRIST.. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.
