What is recorded here

Crannog is an artificial island built in Kilturk Lough during the medieval or early Christian period. People raised land from wet grounds to hold homes, farms or sacred things away from ordinary reach. The water kept the place separate, visible only when the lake gave up its margin. What remains is a small circle of intention, still resisting the drowning claim of time.

The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as CRANNOG in Kilturk Lough. Recorded period: MEDIEVAL; E.CHRIST.. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
