Crannog is a man-made island in County Fermanagh, built when people wanted dry ground surrounded by water. The name itself admits the trick: a crannog is not a natural island, it is a chosen one. That choice matters. It means someone stood in the wet, measured the risk, and decided the middle was worth taking. The water does not forget that decision. It keeps the shape, presses against the edges, and returns whatever the land lets go.
