Crannog in Curragh (carra By.),saleen (carra By.) is a crannog in County Mayo, Ireland. It is an artificial island, often built of stone, soil or waste, raised above wet ground so people could live, keep animals or store what mattered when flooding threatened ordinary land. The name joins a small lake or basin with a living region, suggesting the water and the people belonged to the same local world. Stand near it at low tide and the idea becomes plain: a room-shaped place in the water, made visible because someone refused to let the marsh take every angle of life.
