Crannog in Cortober (cremorne By.)

Crannog in Cortober (cremorne By.) is a circular stone cairn eleven metres wide, half-swallowed by marsh at the northeast corner of Derrygoony Lough in County Monaghan. No wall, doorway or hearth survives, only stones piled where water and reeds have erased the hand that placed them. Perhaps someone built there to watch the narrow channel west of the lake, or to mark a crossing when the marsh was shallower. The lake keeps the shape; the marsh keeps the silence.
