Crannog in Clonkeen (cole) is a grass-covered mound in a low valley where a larger lake may have drowned ordinary land. It stands beside a small stream, not far from the water that still glints to the north, suggesting people once lived above the marsh instead of beside it. The mound is small enough to walk around in a minute, yet it preserves the shape of a house, garden or refuge that the lake took back.

Situated in a low-lying landscape in a N-S valley, and at what might have been the S end of Ramages Lough that is now a small oval area of open water c. 250m to the N but its marshy surround indicates an larger oval lake (dims c. 400m N-S; c. 130m E-W). This is a grass-covered mound (diam. c. 18m; H 1m) with some trees in Clonkeen (Cole) townland, although on the W side of s small N-S stream.
