Carrowmacloughlin holds a crannog, an artificial island built among wetlands where people once lived above the reach of flooding and predators. The name suggests a familiar local landscape rather than a remote wonder, yet the choice of a crannog implies cleverness under pressure. To build one required tools, cooperation and confidence that the water would not take the work back.
