Crannog in Carrickrory occupies a narrow island in Lough Ultan, large enough for a small dwelling yet hidden beneath water and reeds. Its north-west edge still carries faint structural remains, suggesting people shaped the island rather than merely discovering it. The lake may have swallowed the doorway, floors and fireplaces, leaving only a ridge above the surface.

An apparently natural island 29m × 15m in Lough Ultan appears to have some evidence of structural remains on its NNW side.
