What is recorded here
Crannog is a man-made island in County Down, built by people who refused to leave the water behind. They raised land from the lake, perhaps with reeds, soil and deliberate pride, then lived above the danger instead of running from it. The name preserves that choice: a small island, made rather than found, where human hands answered the swamp.
The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as CRANNOG. Recorded period: E.CHRIST.. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.
